Rosedale Elementary 2008 - 2009
School Goals:
1. To Improve Literacy Skills With a Particular Emphasis on Reading, Writing and Oral Language Development.
2. To Develop Social Responsibility Skills and Create A Socially Responsible Learning Community.
Rosedale Today
Rosedale Elementary currently enroles 160+ students, from Kindergarten to grade 6. We are a Reading Mastery School with a strong focus on literacy. Rosedale offers a great variety of school and intramural sports teams, fun days, and spirit days, fostering an excellent school spirit. Within the school we operate a hot-lunch (soup) program as well as a Fruit and Veggie program to promote healthy eating habits. Our PAC runs an annual Carnival and the school also has an annual Penny Drive for Childrens' Hospital. Our school, also, is involved with the Kiwanis Home Reading program and there is a Read-A-Thon in our gym on February 18th (p.m.).
History
The school district of Rosedale was created by the Provincial Government on April 14th, 1890 and the first school was erected in the same year. The first teacher was Mr. W.G. Thomson, who was appointed in August, 1890.
With the growth of the community a four room school was constructed in 1914 on McGrath Road. This served the needs of the area until 1950 when a two room unit was added to the grounds.
